Albufeira - an overview
Albufeira is about 40km west of Faro on Portugal's south coast. First and foremost, Albufeira is famed for its beaches, for the countless shades and tones of its rocks and cliffs. Just a few miles inland and everything changes. The green of the Algarve countryside is dotted with almond, fig, orange and pine trees and decorated chimneys stand out against the ochre of tiled roofs.
Albufeira, Algarve is spread out rather than high-rise. The town itself consists of "old" and "new" sections which merge seamlessly into an extensive holiday-land suburbia, spreading off back east along the Algarve coast to Balaia, Olhos d'Agua and Falesia, and west to São Rafael, Galé and the links golf course at Salgados. The whole area, greater Albufeira you could call it, is the most tourist-intensive place in the Algarve, Portugal.
Albufeira - getting there
Seguro Holidays flight time from Glasgow Prestwick to Faro is approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes. A taxi transfer direct from Faro airport to Albufeira, depending on time of day, takes between 25-35 minutes.
