Calella - an overview
Calella is on the Costa Brava in mainland Spain approximately an hour from Barcelona. Calella is the tourist capital of Costa del Maresme with countless terraces, restaurants and a bustling nightlife, it is an attractive choice for anyone. Calella's centre stretches for three kilometres, between the golden beaches of the Mediterranean and the last of Montnegre. Calella is a lovely coastal destination that should appeal to everyone and has often been awarded the European Blue Flag quality award. Calella has a varied selection of water sports and outdoor activities and excellent facilities at its' Sailing Club.
Calella's old town centres around the church of Santa María, a Neoclassical building and its' heritage continues with the House of Salvador (14th century), the Sivilla House (16th century), and the chapel of San Quirze and Santa Julita. There are many important monuments to visit and Dalmau Park is great place to rest and enjoy a different side of the city.
Calella's pedestrian streets invite you round the historic quarter and the promenade shows Calella's waterfront off well and leads to the lighthouse area that has become an emblem of the city dominating the coastline.
