Costa Brava Region - an overview
Costa Brava is the northernmost part of Catalonia with a coastline that spreads along two hundred kilometres from Portbou, on the French border, to Blanes, on the estuary of the River Tordera, bordering the Maresme coast in the province of Barcelona. The Costa Brava was discovered at the beginning of the 20th Century by writers and artists (Picasso, Marc Chagall, Rusinol etc) who were attracted by the richness of its traditions and natural beauty. The Costa Brava region has an extremely rugged coast with foothills that go right out to sea forming rocky cliffs with small bays where hidden beaches are surrounded by pine trees and in contrast large beaches can be found that offer variety, a great place for holidays.

Costa Brava inland is dotted with small villages and towns, often dedicated to agriculture or small industry, that maintain their charm and personality from pockets of farmhouses to huge forests and villages where medieval buildings and small narrow streets are preserved. The charms of the Costa Brava region captivated Salvador Dali where there are houses in which he spent a major part of his life and at Figueres there is a unique and the original Dali Museum. La Bisbal is the pottery capital of the region where master craftsmen have kept the tradition alive and where the Terracotta museum can be found.

In the area of the Costa Brava that our hotels feature the tourist attractions include Torroella de Montgri and Peralada music festivals, the Medes Isles natural marine reserve, and small bays of Begur and Palafrugell where wonderful panoramic views can be taken from Sant Sebastia lighthouse, the Dalinian triangle, the medieval villages of Pals and Peratallada, Iberian settlement of Ullastret, pottery in Bisbal and the old medieval town of Tossa de Mar, a wealth of interesting and varied places to visit.
