Lloret de Mar - an overview
Lloret de Mar is situated in the southern part of the Costa Brava and was once a fishing village. Lloret de Mar has five main beaches along 7kms of coastline that have been awarded the EEC Blue Flag for their quality and the services provided.
The history of Lloret dates back to the third century BC and later the Romans settled there. Lloret has kept its personality and traditions and two unique buildings: the Sant Joan's tower, situated on top of the hill separating Lloret and Fenals' beaches acted as a watchtower and refuge; and the primitive church of Sant Romà (now known as Nostra Senyora de les Alegries), that has been extensively renovated but retains Romanesque features. Traditional town festivities and folklore run all year round.
Lloretde Mar is regarded as one of liveliest resorts on the Costa Brava and centres on its tourists by providing a varied range of acccommodation, sports facilities, good shopping, British style pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs. In the high season it particularly attracts the young groups and couples.
